Chinese Fighter Footage

http://www.disinfo.com/2011/02/chinas-footage-of-their-new-fight-jet-was-actually-dubbed-from-top-gun/

Chinese military propaganda footage actually stollen from Top Gun!
Apparently the Chinese would like to appear capable and powerful, but they lack the footage (or cinematic vocabulary) necessary to imply it. There are a variety of ways to interpret this "borrowing" of 90's American Cinema, but I believe that it indicates that it indicates a Chinese concern for their image as a rising military power.
This video is more unusual than it is provocative, but I think that it is a worthy addition to the blog.

  1. Great find! On an only tangentially related note, this video surfaced the last time I taught this course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtWNi1eF3Hw.

  2. This kind of goes along with the article i just posted, about china increasing their military spending to help modernize it. Maybe their increase in budget will help them enough to where they will not need to "borrow" footage from 90's movies.
