China Will Hold Local Governments More Responsible in Reducing Pollution

As part of its new 5 year plan, China has issued carbon dioxide emission quotas to provincial governments. As the worlds leading polluter, China is seeking to decrease its pollution, especially from heavy metals and non bio-degradable waste. This new 5 year plan is set to decrease its pollution growth by an even greater amount than its last 5 year plan, a goal it failed to meet. Chinese officials have stated that they can no longer ignore the environment in favor of economic growth.
