Chinese cities mull registration reform

Many cities in China are beginning to reform the hukou, or residency system. In Chengdu, this means they are beginning experimental reforms equalizing the rights of the rural population with those in the cities. In Beijing, these reforms are making it more difficult for non-residents, as they attempt to keep the population from growing. The hukou system generally causes issues for migrant workers and often divides families.
