China Announces Plans to save Energy

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/05/business/energy-environment/05energy.html?scp=2&sq=china&st=cse

With gas prices at their highest price in two years due to unrest in the Middle East and North Africa, China has plans to announce a strict 5 year energy conservation plan. China, which had long been an exporter of oil, is now expected to pass the U.S. as an oil importer, and as such, tends to view its oil needs as a matter of national security, due to its rapidly growing economy. Part of the plan to limit oil consumption is a focus on electrical cars. Given that China's economy is expected to continue its rapid growth, and its energy needs as a result, only time will tell how truly successful its plans are.
