"Libraries, museums to be free to public"

This article reveals that the Chinese government plans to make all public libraries and museums free of charge. In order to augment the amount of people capable of coming to the facilities, they are also holding more events and improving access for the disabled. I feel that this is an attempt to promote not only an increased interest in history, art, and science, but also a sign of China's continued slackening of the iron fist that once strangled all creative production.

  1. The library point should be interesting. Doing research in China is a real pain: the books are all locked away and you stand around forever and wait for books (that you might not even need) to be called up. I wonder if public promotion will coincide with more relaxed circulation?
