Chinese contemporary art
http://www.artscenechina.com/ This very cool website presents a diversity of contemporary Chinese photographs, paintors and sculptors. (all the images are the property of http://www.artscenechina.com/) the dramatic reds of Chen yu, whose paintings are described as poetry. purity, quietness, indifference. She uses a lot of ink paintings. Her work is very much based on Chinese tradition. "She was trying to use Chinese spiritual expression and Western color interpretation to present the contemporary spirit world." http://www.kelliu.com/ This is the work of the Chinese- American artist Hung Liu. Her website allows to see a lot of her art and zoom into it! Hung Liu lived for 36 years in China before coming to the USA. In her biography, she talks about growing up in communist China and how it influenced her. Propaganda was part of her life and she wanted to be a tough soldier as some of the heroes presented by propaganda movies. There is a lot more on the website artscene China. Some of the pieces are more disturbing than other and bring some questions, such as the work of Du Xinjian (to the right). http://www.duxinjian.com/statement.html
