China Tightens Controls on Foreign Press

With threats of a public protest being urged on in China by internet campaigns, the government has begun to crackdown. Rather than focusing on further internet censorship, the government has instead targeted foreigners it feels to be potentially disruptive. Many foreign news reporters were warned that they had violated regulations by visiting potential protest sites, and were warned not to do so again. Beijing also announced a plan to use cellphones to track the movements of citizens of the city.
